Awaken the actor

Improv is creating theater live in the moment so we are wise to borrow skills from actors. Acting is the ability to connect with ourselves and our scene partners, to express emotions and to make the audience feel. Scenes are always better with good acting.

Discover the freedom of playing from instinct and sensation as we bring awareness into the body and really listen. We will slow right down and feel the emotional connection between you and your scene partner, giving space for subtext to arise and develop.

We’ll look at our stagecraft, our presence, our expression and start playing from the heart not the head.

When we are emotionally connected, our improv becomes exciting and believable, taking us to new places. It affects the audience and allows us to create authentic, uniquely touching art.

I trained as an actress at Mountview Theatre School in London, then fell in love with improv and studied improvisation at iO Chicago and with many other teachers and schools. Over the last twenty years I’ve performed in numerous productions, with roles ranging from divas to doctors to an actual pig! My home improv team is The Maydays, who I have played with for around 15 years in a range of shows; I also improvise in all-female group ‘Yes Queens’, ‘Bumper Blyton’ and guest with other ensembles, in the UK and internationally.

I was nominated Best Female Performer at Brighton Fringe Awards for a musical comedy I wrote, and I’m the author of the book ‘Own It! How To Boss Your Fears, Free Your Voice and Inspire The Room’.  I also narrate the audiobook for people who prefer reading with their ears.

Aside from improv, I love eating, being underwater and having a good old dance – though not all at the same time!
